The new Kindle Paperwhite released in Germany on 9 tomorrow October – but first devices were shipped last Monday, the U.S. went on sale last week already going on. A look at the reviews shows that the device is worth the money, but for owners of the first generation hardly worth upgrading

.Pre

can it already, from 9 October, he will be officially delivered and it will cost 129 euros (for prime members only 99 euros): the new Kindle Paperwhite. We were already a month ago, have a look at the device at the IFA, and the recently published first reviews hit the same line.’s New Kindle Paperwhite is the perfect ebook reader for those who do not yet own the first

Style: Attention, confusion

Who wants to order the new Kindle on Amazon Paperwhite, must look closely: The newbie and the previous model differ neither in design nor in the price, one wrong click and you have bought the old hardware. Size (169 mm x 117 mm x 9.1 mm) is the same, not to feel the weight loss of seven grams. The only difference is the back: There is now no longer the Kindle logo to see, but the Amazon. Still a lack of a headphone jack or an SD slot.

display: slight advantage Carta

kindle-paperwhite-2 Completely screwed down the backlight (a complete turn is not possible for two generations) is practically no difference between the devices. When laid side by side, as you did with The eBook reader, the second White Paper is a little white, but the real difference between Pearl and Carta reveals itself only when the light goes on.

kindle-paper-white 1 The Carta-screen reached a significantly higher level of brightness and thus a better reading experience, even in very bright environments. Finally, using “Light Boost” with a tap switch to the highest level of illumination.

The eBook reader noticed that the problem of “ghosting” when the text of the following page on the current light shines through, the new Kindle Paperwhite is worse than, say, the Kobo aura. This effect arises from the fact that the device is already loads the following pages, while still reads to subsequently allow for faster page turning. Who cares, but can turn off the “partial refresh” in the settings. The improved processor (800 MHz to 1 GHz) also promises as a shortened page load time.
Effusive enthusiasm, however, did not call the show. Engadget While it was recognized that the turning and opening the books proceeds more generous, the page loading time but only slightly improved. The Digital Reader notes, however, that “the new model with the loading of the page is already ready before the old one ever starts.”

software: Two new features

The software has remained the same, but comes up with two new features:

Kindle Flip Page said so far for the printed book that you could scroll through it much faster and easier. Page Flip it now allows to open a new window on the screen where you search the book, just read without leaving the page. This is all expressed afloat vonstatten and is the thumb method when printed book practically nothing after.

• Vocabulary Trainer : If you read a lot of foreign literature, his words looked up to as a tab in a vocabulary trainer store

reason alone to upgrade but not worth it. So far, at any rate all the new software features via firmware updates come sooner or later also on older devices. As an Amazon spokeswoman told us they wanted to maintain this practice, as long as there is hardware technically possible.

Conclusion

kindle-paper-white 5

For those who do not have a backlit ebook reader and can live with Amazon’s DRM policy, the purchase but definitely worth it. But who are still too expensive 129 euros, which can also wait until Amazon reduced its predecessor – at some point the stock must eventually be cleared
