Kindle stopped? Probably not. – ALLESebook.de

A few days ago here’s was an article that has illuminated the past holiday shopping from Amazon in a nutshell. This is the Kindle Paperwhite – the currently most important reader of the company – especially getting a rough ride. It was the best-selling electronics product at Amazon.de. Thus, the German branch of the shipping giant could again look forward to a successful Reading Christmas.

faced a very different one headline from our colleagues at Chip Online, which was taken up in our forums. The technology portal reported collapse in sales of the Kindle. In the title even the final end of the eBook Reader Amazon offer is then placed in the room. Why this blatant difference comes to the aforementioned success message?

broken Kindle sales?

The chip article does not apply as to the information from Amazon, but to statements by the CEO of the largest British branch bookseller Waterstones, which he has made to the Financial Times. It says in substance, that the Kindle eReader sales basically have “disappeared”. In December, sales of printed books, however, are increased by five percent.

the same horn blows the Foyles bookstore. The company sells unlike Waterstones, however, no Kindle eReader, but Barnes & amp; Noble Nook. Their sales figures were “not as impressive as you had expected,” said Foyle.

So it seems not only the Kindle division to meet, to a certain extent in the the same breath, in the Financial Times called the Nook deal to reichnen a picture of a weakening eBook market. Let us look at it more closely.

Paperwhite still the most successful eReader

It is worth noting first that Waterstones since 2011 has radical conversion work behind. The CEO was brought to the takeover of the company on board to lead the bookstore chain back into the profit zone. This year there will be so far. Against this background, it is not so surprising when one has invested millions in the restructuring of the company (and shops), the success of the action in the foreground – which is in the nature of things. That Kindle sales at Waterstones have collapsed, may now have many reasons – the exact sales figures were not already known, so that one can speculate only

. However, one thing should be mentioned: the growth in the print area is noisy Waterstones statement at five percent … in December. This is for the individual bookstores certainly encouraging, but ultimately can this marginal growth not blame that Kindle sales (allegedly) broken away.

Let us therefore prefer a look at the sales from Amazon UK. The British branch of the shipping giant sells eReader models of course on your website. Here, the situation is quite different: In the UK, the Kindle Paperwhite was the most popular electronic product. From one end of Kindle readers can therefore be no question – on the contrary: During the Paperwhite in 2013, mostly behind the Kindle Fire HD on the second (or even third) was square, the eBook Reader Mehere weeks was at in 2014 hold the tip of the electronic charts

Heavy Stand for Barnes & amp. Noble

The headline that the Kindle sales have plummeted (whether on the basis of German or British numbers), so it is difficult durable. Off the dedicated readers is certainly more than unlikely

Oh, one more word to Foyles and Nook. Barnes & amp; Noble had in the UK anyway not a very easy start. In 2013, the eBook Reader sold at bargain basement prices. A Nook Touch has already received for a paltry 35 euros. The fact that the much more expensive for around 115 euros Nook GlowLight, the technically can not reach the main competitor of Amazon the water, now sold worse was to be expected. That may be then as “not impressive” call (see above).

However, of course you have to remember that the eBook market certainly does not grow without limits , At some point, the plateau is reached, which ultimately expected (thanks to a long shelf life, due to slower technology cycles) impact on the sales of dedicated readers. The market shares of digital books in e-book pioneer USA will be around 30 percent of all books sold (by number, not by revenue). This threshold is now taken as a benchmark for other markets, the UK book market is here considerably closer than the German.

Waterstones before digital refocusing

Finally, it should be the testimony of Waterstones CEO not attach too much importance – at least not for the overall market. It is more likely that the company wants to separate from Amazon and now paves the way for it even before the official announcement.

The Digital Reader speculated even that Waterstones might do next with the Tolino Alliance common cause. That the British chain continues at a possible end of the Amazon Cooperation without digital business, is unlikely and Tolino Alliance is currently anyway to expand. Many alternatives’s not Barnes & amp; Noble already (apparently as mentioned above with streaky success) works with several other British Bookshops together with WHSmith Kobo and other providers or equipment manufacturer’s basically no. However, one must of course be said that the Tolino brand has been launched only in countries whose eBook markets were not as advanced as it is the case in Britain.

We must in any case be curious. That the Tolino Alliance continues its expansion in 2015, is not unlikely – so why not in the UK? We will keep you up to date.
