Earthscan stomps a Kindle Sweepstakes - lesen.net

7 June 2013 – From John

Knaur cover Amazon Posse, next part: The Earthscan Publishing Group (Holtzbrinck) wanted only giving away two Kindle on Facebook. This one has but reckoned without the retail book trade.

the first five Amazon.de Reviewers of Knaur’s novel “How Brad Pitt kidnapped” on Thursday praised the publisher via facebook posting two Kindle. Those who have reviewed the submitted through the publisher’s own indie portal Neobooks book, this should simply manifest on Facebook.

“as a bookseller I have no words”

addition to appropriate postings (whether the reviewers have actually read the book in the context of the competition, was once undecided) to fill the Comment column in the shortest possible time with irate booksellers. One wrote: “Why is Amazon preferred here because (…) So far I have learned to know Knaur publishing as a very, very good and the book publishing trade related. Which is probably not so … “. One other booksellers “no words”. One user commented cynically: “On behalf of many independent small publishers I would like to thank the United publisher Earthscan for the great idea to apply with a single, nice-intentioned facebook posting half the book trade against them.”

Apparently scared by the negative echo the original posting (a screenshot here) like wildfire of the page disappeared. Instead of standing on the Facebook wall is now an excuse: if it were a misunderstanding, we regret the excitement

.

exciting atmosphere

This excitement is quite understandable (at least much more than a mention of Amazon in a children’s book), we consider the economic context. Booksellers are long-standing and important distribution partner for publishers. Knaur but here applied to the Kindle, a product whose users are lost to the de facto independent bookstores, because the Kindle from Amazon only works with purchased cope (if copy-protected). However, the intensity and speed of the wave criticism illustrates once more the heated atmosphere in an industry that is unfortunately all too common in the response to competitors with aggressive grandfathered foreclosure and held their own innovations.
