Professor Peter Purgathofer (PPP) from the Vienna University of Technology has constructed a Lego robot, the e-books on Amazon’s Kindle reader free from pesky DRM – with the help of a laptop and services from the cloud . Specifically, the robot pushes alternately two buttons, one page flip on the Kindle and then the spacebar on the laptop, making a photo of the Kindle screen is shot. The photos are then processed by an online text to text recognition program, which in the end is a plain text document that can be edited as required. The installation is of course not intended as a practical home remedies for DRM wrong, but is intended to illustrate the absurdity of the copy protection practice. Video after the break.
