Kindle Worlds: The marketing of fan fiction

The Internet giant Amazon adds its publishing activities, a new program added: Kindle Worlds. Besides the own publishing programs under the umbrella of Amazon Publishing, the self-publishing program, Kindle Direct Publishing and Amazon’s Kindle Singles program has now including a marketing program for fan fiction based on well-known characters or series.

Amazon has license agreements with producers of different series completed this claims to be – including the book series of the TV series “Gossip Girl,” from the house of Warner Brothers, whose title more than once been on the New York Times bestseller list, and the “Vampire Diaries” (“Vampire Diaries”) by LJ Smith. Additional license agreements will soon be completed.

Kindle Worlds program allows thanks to these licensing arrangements every fan-author, authorized to write stories that are inspired by the entertainment worlds. Rights holders and fan-author are involved in the sale of digital titles via Kindle. The authors according to Amazon’s fee should be at 35 percent of net proceeds – unless the work includes more than 10,000 words

with Amazon Kindle Publishing Worlds starts a pilot project for digital short works (5,000 to 10,000 words). In this case, the authors are paid at 20 percent of the proceeds.

In June, the Worlds

Kindle Store will be opened: with a range of more than 50 commissioned works, the New York Times bestselling authors such as Barbara Freethy, John Everson and Colleen Thomkpson contribute. At the same time, the automated filing system for authorized fan fiction is opened.
